The Dangers of Facebook Invitations

On the weekend I heard of a child from Melbourne who had posted an invite to her Facebook friends inviting them over after school for a swim on the 10th August to celebrate her 11th Birthday. When the invite reached the attention of my two teenage daughters there were well over 3000 people attending and this morning when I decided to use this as a story on my blog she had 39,943 people attending! I hope her parents have more than one swimming pool!
This is a great example showing how somehting so simple can go so wrong. Ten or even eleven years old is too young for Facebook and children of that age are not going to do the research as to how to send an invitation correctly. This child clearly has also never been taught that you NEVER publish anything to the default of "public".
