Professional Development Opportunities

Yesterday I had a thrilling day, for a tech nerd like myself, a full day Cybersafety course followed by dinner (with 49 others) with the General manager of Google, Karim Temsamani. Whilst Cybersafety and the policies around it will require a much longer session I'm hoping I can pass on some key learnings from Karim's presentation for you in the form of quotes I jotted down as he spoke.

Around Googles recruitment processes he said they "look for applicants with a high level of education, the ability to dream, and curiosity". He predicted Engineering and Statistics to be the "sexy" career choices in 10 yrs time. He said Google is about thinking long-term and as an organisation they won't achieve their goals for another 200-300 years.

Other quotes I noted when he talked about Google's success that I felt were worth some
consideration were:
"recognise & declare failure"
"fail quickly"
"creativity loves restraints"
"question assumption, question the context and think of the future"
"focus on your user"
"think big as it's easier to attract people to your cause"
"working in small global teams, with autonomy"
" every one of our innovations has a technical breakthrough at it's core"
"make it easy for people to leave"
